Hangabout

Hangabout — Terms of Use

Effective 14 October 2026.

These terms apply when you use the Hangabout app. By using it you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

Hangabout is operated by Lachlan Dowd ("we", "us"). Each gym that uses Hangabout runs its own content in the app; "the gym" means the gym you are using Hangabout at.

1. The app

Hangabout is free. It shows a gym's routes, walls, news and events, and lets you log and rate the routes you climb. You can browse without an account; some features need one.

2. Your account

3. What you post

Your username and profile photo are visible to each gym you've joined and, if you set routes, to other climbers. Don't use a username or photo that is offensive, impersonates someone, or infringes anyone's rights. Setters and staff are responsible for the routes, photos and notes they add on the gym's behalf.

We, and the gym, may remove a username, photo or other content that breaks these terms, and may suspend an account that keeps doing so. To report something, email support@hangabout.app — we'll look at it within 72 hours.

You keep ownership of photos you upload. You give us and the gym permission to store and show them in the app for as long as they're there.

4. The gym's content

Route grades, hold colours, photos, news, events and opening details come from the gym. We don't check them and aren't responsible for their accuracy. Grades are a setter's opinion — that's half the fun.

5. Climbing is your risk

Hangabout is information, not instruction or supervision. A route's photo, grade, holds or "intended" sequence may be out of date or wrong — routes change, and holds spin. Climbing and bouldering carry a real risk of injury. Follow the gym's rules and staff, warm up, and climb within your ability. Nothing in the app replaces the gym's own safety guidance.

6. Fair use

Don't misuse the app: no attempting to access other people's information, interfering with the service, scraping it, or using it to break the law.

7. Our liability

We provide Hangabout "as is" and can't promise it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of it.

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can't be excluded.

8. Changes

We may update the app and these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Hangabout after that means you accept the new terms.

9. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia.
